Website..finished!

I have officially completed my website! This has been so time consuming! im so happy I have finished! I am very happy with my final website, I am extremely happy with my background, and the way I have set out my information. I decided to incorporate a scroll into some pages as I didnt want my image to repeat and had difficulties in making my image larger.. I thought the scroll included on some pages was succesfully used as the information runs neatly between the graphics which dont have to move or be repeated as the page scrolls down. Overall creating a web site has been very interesting and I have learnt alot, through all the ups and downs!

With my blog I wanted to create a bright eye catching blog, so for my background I used photos I had taken and using them together created a stripy themed background. I aimed to create a blog that would be appealing and attractive to the viewer, which I think I succesfully did. I was originally using blogger but I felt that Tumblr was easier to customise and I liked the layouts that were available to work with better than those available on blogger. So I have transfered my posts over to this blog.

Web progress 2

So now I am onto the styling of my html. I have found that little mistakes can sometimes produce things that you didnt realise you could do. for example.. the way I have my menu buttons alligned happend not on purpose but I felt it was an interesting take on a typical menu and after figuring out what had happened within my coding, decided to keep this style and incorporate this element into my website. I have chosen webs.com to host my site and have found it very easy to use and it can hold alot of files, all for free. I came across problems with the padding of my website as my background image incorporates the header used and that is quite large so caused some problems for me in arranging my menu. I think I succesful got around that now so thats good!

This is a shot of my final design background Im very happy with it i believe its very eye catching and that all the elements work well together.

Website progress

I decided to change my initial design for my website as I felt it wasnt particularly eye catching and I wasnt really happy with it. I decided to go with a blue theme and incorporate illustrative graphics. I used the illustrations to aid in the movement of the page, I think the graphics work well in drawing your eye into the central information, and make you want to look at the page, it adds an interesting element to the page.

I have chosen the Stonefest website to redesign. I chose this website because I believe my creativity would be shown best within this category of music festival. I am also a fan of Stonefest which made me even more keen to redesign a website for a festival im really interested in.

I have used the following sites to represent the seven common characteristics within the site I have chosen.

big day out 09

Seven Common Characteristics

1. Illustration techniques

These websites all contain an element of illustration which flows with the sites genre and style and also represents the type of music festival the website is designed for. Illustration is something I would use as illustration can appear very effective when trying to attract people to view your website.

2. Layout

The information on each website is positioned in a central area of the website as to attract the viewers attention immediately. The middle of the page is a prime location for important information or headlines about the festival as this would be the first place you would look at.

3. Illustrations drawing the eye

These websites contain illustrative headings or design work in the back ground that is used to draw the viewers eye into the main heading. This is an interesting use of illustration and design because when someone views a site you immediately want them to zone in on what festival the site is about and then follow on to the essential information eg. time and date of the event.

4. Line up location

These sites all have the lineup of the festival situated on the homepage. This is information that people who would be planning to attend the festival would want to know and placing it in large type and taking up a lot of space of the page would direct viewers attention straight towards this information.

5. Navigation

These sites all have creative yet easy to use navigation systems. Some of these sites incorporate flash to their navigations as to make it seem more entertaining or even game like when trying to find your way around the site.

6. Flash

By using motion within the graphics of these websites, they are creating a more interesting and appealing website. By incorporating flash objects the website can appear modern and fresh, up to date with modern technology. Flash can also make it more fun to surf through a websites content.

7. Incorporating video clips

Some of these sites incorporate video clips on their main pages. This could be a useful attribute to your site as you could play footage of last years festival or samples of bands who were going to play at the festival so people who may be thinking of attending could get a taste of what the festival may be like and whether or not they liked the style of music the festival was based around. Video footage could play a major role in attracting more people to their festival.
